One of us is Lying has such a great premise and I loved how the story developed across the series.
I think especially with mystery based adaptations changes keep readers on their toes, they know the story but they don’t necessarily know the outcome. With any adaptation change is often inevitable but in this case I did really like some of the changes made. I know from social media that the series had made some changes from the book and as I made my way through each episode I did begin to remember more and more. Obviously I remembered the big plot points as well as the end reveal but in terms of the smaller stuff, I was pretty much going in blind. So I have read One of us is Lying but it was a while ago so I couldn’t remember every single detail from the book. But someone as notorious as Simon had many, many enemies. Realising the only thing they can do to prove their innocence is solve the murder themselves, the four begin investigating. At first the four suspect each other but eventually come together when their secrets begin leaking anyway.
But who?ĭubbed the Bayview Four, Bronwyn, Nate, Addy and Cooper all become media sensations, with the police and their fellow classmates all suspecting them of murder. Initially ruled as an accident, evidence is later found that suggets Simon was murdered, meaning somebody in the room is a killer. Simon had posted earlier that morning, promising a big reveal in the next few days, however before he could follow through he suffers from an allergic reaction and dies infront of the four.
The TV adaptation of One of us is Lying follows four high school students- the brainy Bronwyn (Marianly Tejada), cheerleader Addy (Annalisa Cochrane), star athelete Cooper (Chibuikem Uche) and local rebel Nate (Cooper van Grootel)- who are all given detention alongside school gossip Simon (Mark McKenna), who runs a blog which regularly outs the darkest of secrets. Five walk into detention, only four come out alive.
